TREKKING TO CHOQUEQUIRAO – MACHU PICCHU 9 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS

The tour begins in Cachora, located approximately 4 hours drive from Cusco. From there, you hike along the Apurimac Valley, which offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and an extensive valley. After several hours of hiking, Choquequirao comes into view on the other side of the valley, surrounded by a rich biodiversity.

We set up camp in Santa Rosa (2,200 m), a quiet and scenic place next to the Apurimac River, ideal for enjoying the scenery.

This day is the most challenging, requiring a climb of 800 meters over a distance of 14 kilometers through the hot and humid Apurimac Valley. Despite the effort, the views and the diversity of flora and fauna make the experience worthwhile. The camp near Choquequirao (3,050 m) offers spectacular views, especially at sunset, weather permitting.

On this day, we explore Choquequirao, one of the most extensive and least excavated Inca sites. After lunch, the return trip begins, descending to the valley of the Rio Blanco and camping on the terraces of Pinchinuyoc (2,487 m).

From Pinchinuyoc, we walk through the valley to the river, where we pause for a refreshing break. Then you ascend to Maizal (2,891 m), which offers panoramic views and the option to visit a nearby Inca site.

We continue hiking to the community of Yanama, enjoying breathtaking views, original Inca trails and exploring old colonial mines. You will camp in Yanama (3,520 m) and have the opportunity to visit a local family to learn about their traditions.

From Yanama, we ascend to the highest point of the trek (4,840 m), where we can appreciate panoramic views of the mountains, including the Salkantay fortress. Afterwards, we descend to Colpapampa (2,900 m), where we set up camp.

We hike to La Playa (2,400 m) along the Lluskamayo River, surrounded by local life and plantations. Optionally, you can visit nearby hot springs to relax.

We visit Llactapata, an Inca site that offers impressive views of Machu Picchu. Then we continue to Aguas Calientes by train from the Hydroelectric Station.

In the morning, you explore Machu Picchu with a guide, learning about Inca culture. Afterwards, there is free time to explore before returning to Cusco by train and bus.
