The short Inca Trail tour starts early in the morning. Our team will pick you up at your hotel to transfer you to the train station in Ollantaytambo, a journey that offers spectacular views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, farmland and majestic snow-capped mountains. From Ollantaytambo, we will board the train that will take us to Km 104 (2,200 m.a.s.l.), where we will begin our hike crossing the bridge over the Urubamba River, known as the "Sacred River" for its importance to the Incas.
A few minutes after starting the hike, we will arrive at the first archaeological site, Chachabamba, located in a semi-tropical forest environment. After exploring this site, we will begin an uphill hike, passing through various stations that offer views of the Sacred Valley, waterfalls and a great variety of orchids. After approximately three hours of hiking, we will reach the archaeological site of Wiñaywayna (2,650 m.a.s.l.), an excellent example of Inca agriculture with numerous cultivation terraces. This archaeological site also houses the "Temple of the Rainbow" or Temple of Fertility, and its name, Wiñaywayna, comes from an orchid abundant in the area, which means "Forever Young". The visit will last about an hour, after which we will enjoy a light lunch before continuing to the Wiñaywayna checkpoint.
In the second stage of the trek, we will walk for approximately two hours through varied terrain, including stone stairways and tambos (resting places) until we reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate (2,720 m.a.s.l.), which in Inca times served as the main access to Machu Picchu. From here, we enjoy an impressive panoramic view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding valley. Then, we descend to the citadel of Machu Picchu (2,490 m.a.s.l.).
After briefly exploring the area, we will take a bus to the town of Aguas Calientes (2,160 m.a.s.l.), where we will spend the night in a hotel and enjoy dinner in one of the local restaurants.
Overnight at hotel in Aguas Calientes.
