INCA TRAIL THROUGH JUNGLE TO MACHU PICCHU FROM CUSCO – 4 DAYS

We will start the day with the pick up from your hotel in Cusco and a trip in tourist transport for approximately four hours until we arrive at Carrizales or San Luis, where our adventure will begin. During the trip, we will cross the Abra Malaga, at an altitude of 4,300 meters above sea level. From this point, we will descend by bicycle for approximately three hours until we reach Santa Maria, where we will enjoy lunch. During the tour, we will cross a cloud forest and observe coffee and coca leaf plantations. Upon arrival in Santa Maria, we will stay in a guesthouse. In the afternoon, there will be the option of rafting on the Vilcanota River, in class III and IV rapids, for an additional cost.

Lodging: Guest house in Santa Maria.

After breakfast, we will start the first day of trekking following a recently rediscovered stretch of the Inca Trail, heading to Santa Teresa. The first hours of the hike will be uphill, with several stops to learn about the local flora and fauna. One of these stops will be at a local family home, where we can rest briefly, stock up on water and enjoy local tropical fruits. Later, we will cross a section of the Inca Trail that connected Machu Picchu with Vilcabamba, and our guide will offer a detailed explanation about the history and the Inca communication system.

Lodging: Hostel in Santa Teresa.

In the morning, there will be the option of canopy or zip line for an additional cost. After breakfast, we will head to Santa Teresa la Vieja, where we will cross the Urubamba River in an oroya. We will continue walking for approximately two and a half hours, passing through plantations of coca, coffee and fruits such as bananas, oranges, avocados and mangos, as well as some waterfalls. Finally, we will arrive at the hydroelectric plant, where we will enjoy lunch before continuing with a two-hour hike along the railway line to the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes), where we will stay in a hotel.

We will begin the last day with an ascent to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Once there, we will take a guided tour of the most important temples and palaces of the Inca citadel. After the guided tour, there will be free time to explore the site on your own. Optionally, you can hike to Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu mountain, available for an additional cost. At the agreed time, we will descend to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, we will continue by land transportation to Cusco, where the service will end with the transfer to your hotel.
